"CHAM"- The Mask Dance

Cham is a mask dance by Hemis Monastery in Ladakh. It is associated with sects of Buddhism and Buddhist festival. It is performed by Lamas(monks). It is also considered as a form of meditation.

Tibet, Nepal, and across the steppes of Mongolia.

Buddhist monks in medieval monasteries hold sacred festivals once a year, during which they perform 1,300-year-old mystical dances, collectively called Cham, in order to transform evil for the benefit of the entire world.

In this the dancers wear dresses of brocade and silk costume.

various instruments used during performance includes Cymbals, Drum, Bell, Flageolet, Trumphet and Shell.

Recently Cham was performed during Bodiparva, festival of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation(BIMSTEC).

  1. This is by far one of the best places to hang with friends, have great drinks (amazing beer selection), eat some great food, including the great lunch I had there. Prices at event locations are very reasonable and the pizza was awesome.
