Geography of Haryana

  • Haryana is located in the northwest India between 27 degree 39' N to 30 degree 35' N latitude and between 74 degree 28' E to 77 degree 36' E longitude and at an altitude of 700-3600 ft above sea level.
  • Haryana is a landlocked state in the North Western region of India and having area of  44,212 Sq Km which is 1.34% of the total geographical area of country.
  • It is surrounded by 
    • Himachal Pradesh in North, 
    • Uttar Pradesh in East, 
    • Punjab in West and 
    • Rajasthan in South
  • Haryana is extremely hot in summer (around 45°C/113°F) and mild in winter. 
  • The hottest months are May & June and coldest are December & January


  • Geographically Sirsa(4,277sq. km) is the largest district while Faridabad(792 sq. km) is the smallest district of Haryana
  • Faridabad is most densely populated district of Haryana














Haryana has following four main geographical features:
  1. The Yamuna-Ghaggar plain forming the largest part of the state.
  2. Shivalik Hills to the northeast in foothills of Himalayas.
  3. Semi-desert dry sandy plain to the south-west.
  4. Aravali Hills in the south.
